About the Artist
I have been enchanted by art for as long as I can remember. Peering into picture books as a child, I felt transported into a magic world of mystery, beauty, and light. I grew up along the Connecticut shoreline, a paradise of beaches, marshes, meadows, woods and the cadence of Long Island Sound. This instilled in me a thirst for knowledge, a passion for painting, and a love of nature. I live in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania now, just a short distance from the Delaware Water Gap, an amazing geological phenomenon.
I seek the extraordinary in the ordinary, the little miracles that surround us every day. I paint from my heart in the hope of transporting the viewer into a rural world of timelessness. To me, the patchwork of an old farm reveals the fortunes and hardships of the people that have lived there. Old vases and pictures are portraits of their former owners. There is an exquisite beauty in a spiderweb. Voices of past summers fill empty Adirondack chairs. A summer breeze dances through a meadow. A cat’s purr comforts us. There are memories in flowers and possibilities in seashells. The soft hum of life whispers of joy, love, heartbreak, humor, aging, diversity, and the fleeting movement to time. My goal is to capture these elements in my paintings.
I have worked as a waitress, bartender, bus girl, hostess, baker, museum guard, and veterinary receptionist. I have sold art supplies and taught painting and drawing to seniors. All these jobs allowed me to pursue my artistic exploration on the side, gradually improving my skills. I have studied with many wonderful artists in the USA, Canada, and France, including Frank Stout, Deane Keller, Jr., Kathy Anderson, Peter Fiore, Karen Blackwood, and Brian Keeler. I have a bachelor’s degree in Art from Marlboro College in Vermont.
I paint both in my studio and en plein air. I have participated in many regional shows in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, winning several awards and honorable mentions. I am a member of the Antoine Dutot Museum in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania where I help to run an annual Plein Air Paint Out fundraiser. The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut has my painted palette in its permanent collection. My paintings are included in private collections in the USA and England.
I am a very lucky person for I speak in pictures. I am so grateful that I have been blessed with the ability to paint and draw. I believe art is a love affair with nature and light. My paintings are both my biography and my legacy.
